Horse Shoe Canyon - Saturday

Saturday's adventure of course included riding ATVs, but also included a great hike in Horseshoe Canyon to the Great Gallery. Horseshoe Canyon is actually a remote extention of Canyonlands National Park. The hike started by dropping 850 feet into the canyon. The 6.5 mile round-trip hike included 4 different rock art sites with the last site being The Great Galley. The Great Gallery contains one of the most significant rock art collections in North America. My photos don't do it justice. Some of the rock art is life-sized and done with a combination of both pictograph (painting) & pectroglyph (decoratviely chipping away of the stone wall) style. Some of the rock art is carbon dated to approximately 2000 to 4000 BC. It was amazing stuff to see.
